Hainan Chicken Rice at Ah Tong Chicken Rice Cafe at Jalan Air Hitam, Penang

We have so much chicken rice sessions on Sunday afternoons you have no idea! 

Instead of going to the usual chicken place we always go, a good friend of ours recommended this place to us and so try new chicken rice it is!

We love trying out new things, new food, new adventure. After all, change is a constant thing right? If never try new things, you will never expand your horizon. So yeah..

The place was pretty crowded with people when we arrived at about 1pm so that sort of has a first good impression. Hehe.

Hainan Chicken Rice.

Chicken/Char Siew rice

He says: Smells awesome.. But just okay as a whole I think.

She says: I love the rice flavor, full of aroma. Can eat just the rice. The chicken was a little too dry and tough. Char siew was alright. It wasn't bad nor was it really good.

Tien Kit says: The chicken compared to other stalls is pretty good and tasty. But for the char siew, not as good as chicken.

Kiam Chai Boey

He says: Just okay. Not OHHM enough..

She says: It will be a lot nicer if the soup is thicker. The taste is pretty okay.

Tien Kit says: The chai boey is the bomb! Just like home cooked, enough spicy and enough sour (kao luak kao swee). It's the best chai boey you can get, there's no other chai boey as appetizing as this.

Chicken/Pork Rice at Restoren Loon Heng at Burmah Road, Penang

Can say that we use this road quit often, but never really notice this humble shop on the right side of the main road of Pulau Tikus. It's directly beside Sawara Restaurant.

It was a random afternoon lunch and he decided to eat here. He ate there once and didn't really like it but we decided to give it another try.

Difficult for chicken rice to go wrong, isn't it?

Roasted chicken and barbequed pork (char siew)

He says: Looking at it makes me hungry already! A lot different from what I can remember but its pretty good. 

She says: The dark sauce coating the meat is yummy. The bbq pork is quite hard. If it's softer, it would be really yummy.

They have different kind of soup that you can order if you do not the usual clear soup or kiam chai boey.

Six Flavor with Chicken - RM5

He says: I could just eat this with rice. The soup tastes just nice but in a way rich in its herbs at the same time. 

She says: It's a lil oily but the taste is yummy. I would love to try the other soups!

Chicken Rice at Jalan Atas at Nibong Tebal, Penang

HELLO! HELLO!

Wow. The last time we posted anything here was LAST MONTH! 

March has been a crazy busy month for the both of us, hence the dead-blog for a while. Ahhh. Feels good to be back here to our baby. 

We were not able to spend so much time together this month as we both are so caught with work etc. Okay okay. You did not come here to read about our mundane working life. 

Here it goes! CHICKEN RICE AT NIBONG TEBAL.

Who seriously says that there's nothing to eat here? You just gotta find cleverly. Hahaha.

The last time we went to Nibong Tebal, we ate a few other things that you can find them here and here and here and here.

We also decided to try out the chicken and pork rice. Well, we are quite a huge bunch of young people who's always hungry I guess. 

So many good things to eat when you're at Nibong Tebal. You just gotta know where to find them. That's why you're reading us now :))

The stall is located in the middle of the nameless coffeeshop.

Green chilli sauce. Good stuff.

Cantonese style barbequed pork aka char siew / Roasted chicken rice.

He says: Yummy! Kinda hard to find this kind of chicken rice now.. The sauce is not too seet nor too salty. Not bad :)

She says: The gravy on top of the rice is sweet and sticky. Very yummy. The char siew is very soft and it tasted like any normal char siew would. I like it because it's really soft. The roasted chicken is normal. Overall, quite a yummy dish.

Eddy's Chicken Rice at Lorong Susu, Penang

Chicken rice here. Chicken rice there. Chicken rice everywhere.

Another sure-eat-everytime-we-don't-know-what-else-to-eat!

He has been eating this one since he was a lil boy. His mom brought him there. So, he was very convincing as usual towards the chicken rice here and he always said it's the best d and all. She ate here a few times with him and both have different opinions! :)

Chilli sauce - very important 'side dish' to any chicken rice meal.

He says: Sourrrrr.. but its good, its good..

She says: Thumbs up! :)

Chai Buih (Soup with salted vege and lots of i-have-no-idea-what!)

He says: Chai Buiiihh! and its freee unlike other places! Haha. It's quite sour though but I like it!

She says: Yes, it's free. but it SUCKS! Not nice at all. It's too sour and there's no chai bueh taste really! It's not a good soup. No idea why he so crazy and love this soup so much!

Chicken + Duck - RM5

He says: My mum brought me to this place for the first time back when I was 15 and since then its one of my favourite chicken rice! I just love the way the boss simply chop the chicken! Make the chicken taste better somehow! =D Try the duck rice too.. Request the boss to deep fry the duck for you first!

She says: The sauce that's covering the rice is spoon-licking good. Serious, no kidding. The chicken meat, okok only. Duck meat, not that bad. What I really love about this dish is the black sauce with rice and duck meat is the winenr for me.

Roast Pork (char siew) + Pork Belly (sio bak) - RM5

He says: The char siew is simply amazingg! You know what you can do? Admire the colour of the char siew when it is left hanging on the shop. "Looks" tasty and shiny! It is sweeeet and soft. The char siew comes with a sweet sauce too! The pork belly is just okay for me though..

She says: Love the char siew! Sio bak okay only. Nothing great.

Eddy's Chicken Rice at Lorong Susu, Penang

Location: Just opposite the mamak roti canai stall that we blogged about earlier! The orange building!

Price: Reasonable

Fatty Boy Chicken Rice Restaurant 98 at Burmah Road, Penang

ANOTHER ALL-TIME FAVORITE!

You have no idea how often we eat chicken rice! Not like always la, but still very often! It's like we just have some sort of attraction towards this kind of food! Fattening much? haha.

We uses this main road so often that almost everytime we drive pass it, she would mention about this place cos it seems like during lunch time, it's usually packed with hungry people. Just a very small corner shop along the main road but the crowd really is the thing that led us to the makan this time.

The flavored rice

He says: Hmm... Okay lahh, normal? =)

She says: Quite nice.

He says: Love this one. Sour and sweet =)

She says: Not spicy enough but like the taste of it.

He says: Yup yup.. Like this one.. Got the smell of the freshly roasted chicken =)

She says: I like the sauce of the chicken. Almost like any normal chicken from any chicken rice stall.

He says: Ok la.. Not a big fan of this soup but... is definitely better than other chicken rice shops that sells this soup!

She says: Everytime I eat chicken rice, this is a must-have!  but this one is just so.. err.. not nice at all! Too strong of ginger taste inside and spoils the whole thing. I hated it so much that I didn't take more than 5 spoonful. *geli*

He says: Tau eu nui! How does hard boiled eggs tastes like?

She says: Biasa saja le.

He says: Like all boiled taugehs, this one tastes good! Just put some tau eu, pepper and garlic! 

She says: It's not raw or semi-raw! Usually it's always like semi-raw and its super disgusting to eat but this one is like perfectly cooked, I would say :)

Location: Along Burmah Road.

Direction: Same row as New World Park and directly beside the Tune Hotel.

Price: Reasonably cheap (All that for RM12 for two person)
