Famous Chicken Leg Lor Mee at Medan Selera Taman Free School, Jalan Terengganu, Penang

One of the places that we now like to go is Medan Selera Taman Free School. SO many choices to eat and also, it was both our place of growing up.

Did you know that, when growing up, she was taken care of by her grandparents while her parents work on the second floor of a flat there? Guess who was on the first floor, same flat, with his babysitter!

I KNOW RIGHT!

Anyways, being here brings back so many memories. The food, some still the same and some has changed.

And our all-time favorite still remains.

The ever famous lor mee!

You can either sit inside the food court or by the 'garden'! So romantic and no need spend so much money. It's budget-ly romantic :)

When it comes to this lor me, there is no such thing as sharing. Haha.
He says: BEST in Penang for me! Go try it then you'll know. =) Served hot and spicy! For chicken leg haters, you have to try it here.. u might change your mind after that!
She says: Big one for me please and no chicken leg! So, they always add eggs for me. Super yummy. The 'lor' is so full of taste and not to sticky and thick. Not watery also. Then, the chilli paste makes it even better. Favorite lahh! Literally finger chopstick and spoon licking good.

Lor Mee at Fong Sheng Coffeeshop at Lorong Selamat, Penang

LUNCH TIME is second favourite time during working days. First favourite time of course go home makan. Mommy's home cooked food is best.

So most Thursdays we would eat together to places that are usually walking distance between his office and hers. Instead of going to coffee shops nearby or Eddy's Chicken Rice or Mama's One Ton Mee at Lorong Susu, we decided to go to Lorong Selamat this time and try out the Lor Mee Shop.

He says: I'm a big fan of lor mees! haha! And this one is quite good.. Friendly boss and it is cheap!
She says: I like it. Not love it. WOuld I go back there again? Sure.. why not? It's not great lor mee but its pretty yummeh.

Famous Hokkien Mee at Lebuh Presgrave, Penang

ONE OF THE MUST-EAT FOOD IF YOU"RE IN PENANG!
Hokkien Mee. Prawn Noodles. Har Mee.

Anywhere in Penang, it is surely that you will see at least one Hokkien Mee stall in every coffeeshop. No kidding! Who can not like Hokkien Mee, like seriouslyy??!

So it's been a while ever since we ever crave for Hokkien Mee. She is usually the bigger fan of hokkien mee, and as for him, a fan also la but not as big.

We were... err.. out.. we can't remember exactly where we went or what we did that night. But it's definitely somewhere in town. Cos we were hungry and she wanted to eat hokkien mee so immediately she knew where to go. He has never been to this place. She also not very sure which street as there's so many street at this area. At first, she said 'Goh Tiau Lor' aka Fifth Street but luckily he made the right turn and we found it without having to ask for direction! Heh.

Lebuh Presgrave or a.k.a. 'Sah Tiau Lor' (which literally means third street).

The extra ingredient that you can add into your hokkien mee., roasted pork belly aka 'siu bak'
He says: Sui bak! Yum yum but fatttt!
She says: Skin, crispy. Meat, soft and tender. It's good, it's good :)

Hokkien Mee with roasted pork belly
He says: The hokkien tastes okay but when its come together with the sui bak, it became ho chiak! I only know two places that sells hokkien mee at night and this one certainly beats the other. =) People, give this a try!
She says: Just like any ordinary hokkien mee you can find in Penang. Love that I have siu bak in my hokkien mee! It made it taste nicer! Who doesn't love roasted prok belly rightt!? It's so a bowl of such awesome goodness!

Hokkien/Lor Mee with roasted pork belly (hokkien mee's soup mix with lor mee's soup)
He says: Aha! This one is good. The combination of the soupy hokkien mee plus the starchy loh mee is just magnificent. Recommended =)
She says: I like this one too! The taste of the soup is different that the previous one, but this is nice in its own way le. The lor gives it a very good aroma. Very good yummy combi. Love itt! Now I know where to hunt for hokkien mee in the middle of the night! :)

The humble stall is placed right in front of a house-like-shop-lots.

Crowded at around 10 plus to 11.

Vinegar Lor Mee/Tomyam Noodles at Fountain Cafe, Carnarvon Street, Penang

One fine cloudy hot night + Two extremely hungry people = Problem.

Each one takes turn to suggest a place to eat = Solution.

But sadly, Solution failed miserably because everything that he has suggested, she'd say no and vice versa.

And then all of a sudden, SOMEONE (can't remember whether its her idea or his) mentioned "Lor Mee, vinegar eh!" and that was all that we needed to hear.

Straight formula 1 to the kopitiam.

We didn't even have to think what to order because we have been there many times. And everytime we were there, we always OVER-ORDER like seriously! The last time we ordered the Lor Mee (for 2) and then chicken rice (for 2 also) and 12 pieces of deep fried tofu. And fried oyster? I can't remember d.. It was crazeee! (we managed to finish all, but it was crazy torturing..)

So this time, we only ordered what we wanted to eat, and what we thought was quite our favourite. We were tempted to order side dishes but we resisted the temptations!
*everyone claps* Yes, we are indeed very proud of ourselves :)

Tomyam Maggi Soup

He says: This one is so so la. But for those who prefer tomyams which are more of a sour and spicy type then you should go for it!
She says: It's not a bad tomyam, it's not an awesome tomyam. It's pretty delicious! It's okayly good! :)

This is the shop that sells the tomyam and many other items. This time wasn't our first time ordering the tomyam. That menas we kinda like the dish!

Vinegar Lor Mee
He says: A very special lor mee! Unlike the usual lor mee(s) outside, this one got the taste of vinegar. Also, it tastes a bit like shark fin soup! =D You gotta try this yo!
She says: Calling all shark fin soup lover, this you sure like! I don't really like taking shark fin soup cos I'm not a vinegar-kind-of-person, but this dish changes my liking status towards vinegar, for sure. LOVE THIS DISH TO THE HARDCORE! MUST TRY!

The stall that's behind that brilliant dish!

Kitchen.

Both of the stalls are located in a kopitiam, or should I say neighboring coffeeshops! You'll be able to see based on the photos that we took from our lovely Samsung S2! :)

The lor mee stall is at the very left side of the photo below (in the first nameless kopitiam) and the tomyam in the Kafe Fountain. Many other things to eat there!
