Famous Tomyam at Jalan Raja Uda (right after Kwang Hwa School)

SORRY FOR SUCH A LONG PAUSE SINCE WE LAST UPDATED ANYTHING! SO YEAHH!

This is not the first time we blogged about tomyam.

Being Thai food lovers (yes, the both of us!), we of course will tend to lean more on trying out tomyams and thai-related-foods.

You want to see other tomyam posts that we reviewed? Click here and here.

He brought her here once or maybe a few times but it was always closed.

You see, it's quite funny in a way when we talk about Raja Uda Tomyam. Everytime we suggest to have tomyam at Raja Uda, for sure people will ask, "WHICH ONE?"

CONFIRM people will ask this question!

For the both of us, we always tell people this is the original one. The nicer one. The one next to a school. The one that cooks really slowly and people are still willing to wait.

So, this time when we went there, we waited for like about 1 hour, which isn't too bad, but we were all super hungryyyy!

Imagine us walloping the whole bowl as soon as it reaches our table.

at 7:30pm.

Time to feast :)
You can of course choose your own ingredients and noodles or if you want porridge style also got.

He says: Sweet kind of tomyam and this one is really good! Would travel back there and wait for the bowl of tomyam. :)
She says: It tasted better than it looks! I of course would prefer this than this one, but its quite nice. If you are not those who eats really spicy stuff, this is good for you. It isn't too spicy nor bland. It's alright. Very chun-chun.

Famous Fish Steamboat at Zi Wei Yuan Steamboat, Raja Uda

DadKhoo's early birthday dinner celebration. We had Thai cuisine last year at Khun Thai Teluk Kumbar, of which you can read it here! But this time, we thought we would travel across the sea for some famous fish steamboat. Fish steamboat means the soup is not made with chicken stock or chicken bones, but of fish.

All our first time there except the boy. He sort of took us there and recognised the shop from a distance.

Their shop used to be really small, now ample of space to dine here :)

Their "chilli sauce" dip.
He says: This sauce is great! In hokkien people call it 'lam chut' or something. Sweet, spicy and sour all in one.
She says: SPICY AND SOUR! BEST!

We took a package of RM228. If you don't want the package, you can order the fish soup with a minimal price, and then order all the other ingredients on ala carte basis.

He says: Muahhh.. The soup is super good. Give it a try people, I bet you'll get hook to it!
She says: The fish soup is soooo good that I couldn't stop drinking it. I think we became full very fast because of the soup! And the ingredients are fresh! My favorite has to be the strips of abalone. Least favorite is bacon. Who boils bacon? Mad. MUST TRY THIS STEAMBOAT!

Raja Uda Tomyam at Asia Cafe, Air Itam, Penang.

Tomyam related post again! I don't know if you are beginning to realize that we eat tomyam a lot. or thai related food a lot. I mean like, if we look back, there's a lot of thai/tomyam posts! HAHAHA.

oh well.

Some time ago, a friend mentioned that there is a Raja Uda's Tomyam shop in Penang. In Asia Cafe. So, we found a perfect night to try it out! And what better time to go when all our friends suddenly 'ppk-ed' us on the night we were craving for tomyam and wanted to go to Heng Heng's! (which you can also see our review here!) :)

Same thing in Raja Uda, they have lots and lots of items to choose to go inside the amazing spicy soup, ranging from seafood to non-seafood. They even have razor shells, a type of shellfish.

 the back of the 'kitchen'

 Tomyam maggi
(1 Taiwan sausage, 10 pieces of meatballs, 6 strips of abalone)
RM6.50
He says: Sweet type of tomyam like the original one from Raja Uda. Okok la.. The only bad thing is that it is a bit oily. Anyhow, it is a lot cheaper compared to the one from original one from Raja Uda!
She says: I usually don't prefer maggi mee simply cos then the soup will have that maggi mee taste.

 Tomyam Porridge
(5 strips of abalone, 7 pieces of deep fried fish fillets, minced meat)
RM6.50
He says: This is more like a sticky ball porridge. Haha. Sweeet and sour enough =) Prefer tomyam maggie!
She says: Like this one better. The soup actually tasted quite nice, but a different kind. It's more to a sweet and a bit of spicy sour type. To say I love it, not really but to say I hate it, also not really. So, I'm a lot of somewhere in the middle for this one. LOVE the abalone though! and the fried fish, nicely fried and doesn't smell funny :) Will I visit this shop again? Certainly yes.

Raja Uda Tomyam at Restoran Ju Heng, Penang

What to eat?
Where to eat?
Penang Island okay! that question is like so no point! everywhere also got food! hahaha. but this time we went out of Penang island!

You must be wondering why we went for another Tomyam when we just had our KhunThai tomyam! Well, if you must know, Raja Uda is not only known for their curry mee at 7 Village but also their famous tomyam mee! And who can ever get sick of tomyam, right!

However, we were met with disappointment when the one we planned to go was close. Apparently, according to him, he said it's much nicer that the one we went, which is this one.

Pick Your Own Special Dish Corner!
(enough said isn't it?)
you get to pick as to how many of which kind of items you want in a silver plate given.

 Tomyam Porridge
(cooked rice, added into the soup and ingredients)
She says: This was what I ordered. deep fried fish meat (which was refilled in the container non-stop), meatballs, sliced Taiwan sausages and minced pork meat. I love this dish. They added ginger and cili padi into it and made the whole thing tastes and smells super awesome! all that at RM8.

bowl-licking-good!
It's obvious that we love it as our bowl was clean! like clean clean!! haha :)

Tomyam Maggi
(maggi mee added into soup with other chosen ingredients)
He says: The ingredients that I chose were slices of abalone, meat balls, deep fried fish meat, Taiwan sausages or we call it 'lap cheong', minced meat and a few more different types of fishballs. It was good. But still not as good compared to the one we wanted to go, which for sure we will visit soon! Mine was also RM8.
