Mee Kari at Eupe Food Court at Sungai Petani, Kedah

We lost count on how many times we actually say, "We are back!"

We are! It's been the busiest two months this year and now that we're slowly getting our groove back, it's time to share with you another meal that we both really enjoy having! More of her lah actually. He's not the biggest fan of it because generally he doesn't like curry mee so yeah.

This place was introduced by a friend obviously because Sungai Petani is a new land for us. We have never been there before. It was only when both of us started working and some of our clients are based there that we make trips down there. Most of the time, separately so we never got any chance to review on this.

Not till one day when we both planned a trip there and decided to share with you this amazing place.

It's already a very famous stall in Sungai Petani. We'll tell you why in a sec.

Sometimes, when she goes there for lunch at about 12pm, everything will be sold out. SOLD OUT. So, based on past experiences, we went there at about 1030am-11am so that we will not be disappointed right.

The famous Mee Kari!

The line was insanely long, but the thing about it was we didn't wait that long before it was our turn. The chef very fast and efficient.

The unique thing about this Sungai Petani's Mee Kari is that it's served with either fresh fish fillet or pork ribs for only RM5! Of course if you want both also can at RM6, which we thought was a great price.

We can't think of anywhere that serves curry mee with fish fillet or pork ribs. Usually only hokkien mee has that option to add pork ribs. So, this was really nice.

served with ladies finger and slices of tomatoes.
He says: Would go back for that even-though not a big fan of curry mee. Now I know why friends from SP always introduce this to me!
She says: The soup is pretty standard but towards the yummy side. The chilli is uniquely so delicious. Then, the fish fillet is so soft and fresh and just oh so yums. Definitely my favorite curry mee mee kari so far!

Jasmine Garden Cafe at Macalister Road, Penang

"Everytime we drive pass this road, you sure look at this place. You want to try the food there isit?"

What he said every single time we drive down Macalister Road. Haha.

The truth is, she grew up coming to this place for a family meal. Since she was a very young girl. He has never tried out this place before so he decided to bring her whole family there one nice sunny noon and gave them another walk down memory lane.

This place is run by Catholics where there are rooms upstairs for rent, prolly for those who would like to spend few days in Penang in a budgeted way. Not so sure about that though..

Anyways, no need to say also you will know that she was excited to have lunch that day. She kept checking her watch to make sure we go there earlier than planned. Crazy girl.

Simple place to dine for lunch or dinner.

Signature dish: Belacan Fried Chicken.
He says: Belachan chicken can hardly go wrong! Thumbs up! Hot and crispy!
She says: First bite so juicy and yummy. This one ten-fingers-licking-good. We ordered round two BTW. I can just order this next time. IT'S SERIOUSLY SO YUMMY!

Stir-fry Kailan.
He says: Could be better if there is more taste to it. Maybe a bit more salt?
She says: A normal dish with maybe more taste needed.

Black Bean Soup.
He says: Ermmmm..  Nothing special but pretty decent soup!
She says: Like having a hot water soup with some beans in it? Nehhhh.

He says: Taste okay but the curry is a bit diluted.
She says: Fish fillet is fresh. It looks better than it tasted. To be honest, it was prolly one of the worse I've ever tasted. I remembered it being one of the best I've tasted last time. Maybe change of chefs..

Famous Fish Head Bee Hoon along Burmah Road at Pulau Tikus, Penang

One of those nights where we did not dine at home and decided to makan with a bunch of good friends. The same group that commented on our famous Pulau Aman trip. This time, we decided to include the man who introduced this amazing place to us.

Everyone, please meet Joshua Tan.

The fish head bee hoon soup is located next to a Tua Pek Kong Temple. There's also another stall that sells Fried Yong Tau Foo which we tried too. The compound of the place is pretty huge but only a number of tables are set up. It also gets a bit too dark as the night comes. That's probably why only a few tables are available. The shop behind the fish head beehoon stall is pretty small.

The price is depending on the ingredients that you would like to add into your soup.

They have bee hoon (thin and fat ones), maggie noodles and even porridge. They also serve both clear soup and tomyam soup.

Tomyam Soup with Maggie Noodles.
He says: Tastes just okay to me.
She says: It's unlike any tomyam I've tasted and its like a bit funny kind, but I kinda like it.
Joshua says: It's alright for me. Taste a bit weird at the end.

Clear Soup with Mee Hoon (rice vermicelli)
He says: Like this one.. =D The soup tasted really good.
She says: Perfect for those who don't feel good. This is like yums to the yums. THUMBS UP!
Joshua says: Favourite place to eat so far! Mee hoon not too hard, not too soft, and they've got many choices to choose :)

Fish Head Bee Hoon at Bee Hooi Coffeeshop, Pulau Tikus, Penang

The ever famous coffeeshop in Penang! You say the name, and everyone else or at least most Penang people will know it. BEE HOOI!

So, her uncle recently opened a stall in this famous coffeeshop. We decided to try it out with her family one night. So, what does he sells?

Fish Head/Meat Bee Hoon Th'ng.

Chef at work.

Selection of fresh goodies.

Clear soup bee hoon th'ng with fresh fish fillet.
He says: I like this one.. The soup tastes good and the texture of the bee hoon was just perfect.
She says: The soup is just heavenly. It's that kind where the moment you start sipping one mouth, you'll end up cleaning the bowl. No kidding. It's that goood! :)

Tomyam bee hoon with deep fried fish fillet.
He says: Spicy but could be better if its sourer and thicker!
She says: Like any normal tomyam. It's thick enough for me, but if more sour than power d!

Famous Fish Steamboat at Zi Wei Yuan Steamboat, Raja Uda

DadKhoo's early birthday dinner celebration. We had Thai cuisine last year at Khun Thai Teluk Kumbar, of which you can read it here! But this time, we thought we would travel across the sea for some famous fish steamboat. Fish steamboat means the soup is not made with chicken stock or chicken bones, but of fish.

All our first time there except the boy. He sort of took us there and recognised the shop from a distance.

Their shop used to be really small, now ample of space to dine here :)

Their "chilli sauce" dip.
He says: This sauce is great! In hokkien people call it 'lam chut' or something. Sweet, spicy and sour all in one.
She says: SPICY AND SOUR! BEST!

We took a package of RM228. If you don't want the package, you can order the fish soup with a minimal price, and then order all the other ingredients on ala carte basis.

He says: Muahhh.. The soup is super good. Give it a try people, I bet you'll get hook to it!
She says: The fish soup is soooo good that I couldn't stop drinking it. I think we became full very fast because of the soup! And the ingredients are fresh! My favorite has to be the strips of abalone. Least favorite is bacon. Who boils bacon? Mad. MUST TRY THIS STEAMBOAT!
