Famous Hokkien Mee/Wan Tan Mee at Mt. Erskine Market, Penang

We, not morning people definitely! And we do not usually eat breakfast unless we are meeting up with friends or it's a special day kind of thing.

So on one of the Sunday, we decided to wake up earlier than planned to go have breakfast.
Why?
Because we have to go to Tanjung Bungah's beach to help a friend with a short video shooting, so why not have breakfast first, right?

and we took few shots of our own, just because the last time we were at a beach was long time agooo!
So here you go, the two authors of this awesome-possum food blog! :D

Okay, back to the breakfast. So since we were gonna travel up north, he suggested Mt. Erskine Market. And the market we went.

The man and women behind the stall. So, what do they sell?

This uncle can multi-task, because he sells two items!

First: Hokkien Mee
but the one we ordered is different.
We ordered Hokkien Mee with Wan Tan Mee Noodles - RM3.00
He says: Yummy.. The fusion of wan tan mee's mee and hokkien mee's th'ng! haha! Good food =) Try this peeps! =D
She says: A very unique combination. The soup is good. Not great but good.

Second: Wan Tan Mee - RM3.00
He says: Normal la.. The same old same old. =) However, the texture of the noodle is just nice!
She says: Noodles not too soft and not to hard. The black sauce that they use is superb! Very aromatic! and their dumplings are very soft. Definitely a win compared to the hokkien mee.

There are so many things to eat in the market, so in order for you to know which stall this is, we are gonna show you this. It's a separate part of the whole market. It's like the second division or something. It's behind this plastic-ish curtain. On the right side of the photo, it's the clean public toilet.

Hong Guan Coffee Shop at Batu Ferringhi, Penang

We used to think that having a meal up in Batu Ferringhi means sure have to spend a lot d since it's a very popular tourist spot.

They have hawker food corner but it's all super expensive.

Then we found a place that not only sells pretty cheap food but also totally nice. Actually, we didn't like find it. More like she recommended it because it's one of the place of her fanily's favourite!

They don't have a lot of choice when it comes to 'choo char' dishes, but they do have other items like char hor fun, fried rice and fried noodles etc.

After a good cheap meal all the way up north, then it's walk walk at the beach. How romantic, and we didn't have to spend a lot :)

The front part of their humble corner.

kitchen.

The Cook. He used to work in hotels as chef and then decided to start own his business! :)

Stir fried bitter gourd - RM5
He says: Lurve this thing even though I'm not a fan of bittergourd. Smells good tastes good!
She says: I love bitter gourd!! Like too much love.. THIS IS THE BOMB! The way he stir fired this dish is simple yet so nice to eat. People who doesn't eat this bitter veg often finds themselves alright with this dish *points on top* :)

Stir fried chicken with dried chilli - RM 6
He says: Kong Po style! You gotta try this.. =) Fried together with onions, dried chilli and garlic, it is hard to go wrong.
She says: Chicken meat, tender. Black Kong Po sauce, thick and delicious. Side veges, crispy and fresh. This dish is the second bomb! :D LOVE IT!

Stir fried prawn with oyster sauce - RM 7
He says: Good. The prawn is fresh and I like the sauce!
She says: This one is not my favorite. Not so much that it is not nice, it actually is the way they cook it with the oyster sauce. Will I order this one the next time? Probably not cos I wanna try others! HAHA.

Lucky Dessert at Gurney Plaza, Penang

Durian season is about to end! *wipes tears*

but fear not people.

We found a place where you can get durian-related-food, at a very reasonable price I would say! heh.

We wanted to eat durian so badly but we were already in Gurney Plaza, so we like kinda put that craving aside and forced to not think about it!

Then, we found this place that sells durian! Durian wrap that is.

The front of the shop that made us stop and stared at it for like 5 minutes cos we don't know whether to try it out or not. And that also we asked the guy so many questions.

Oh and if you buy at 9pm onwards, it's buy 1 free 1 :)

Looks yummeh.

They have mango wrap too, which we didn't try cos we were super craving for durian only! :D

and they have these too.

Durian Wrapz - RM4.90
He says: Durian fever! haha.. durian durian durian... Its quite hard to find durian in malls rite? Here's another solution other than my all time favourite durian cream puff.. Durian wrapz! Its okok only la.. the yellow wrap thingy is quite weird.. The only plus point is that it is DURIAN =D
She says: I love how cute and proper it looks. and the color of its wrap thingy is super nice. There's durian and a bit of cream inside. IT'S INSANELY DELICIOUS! So delicious that the next day, I went back and got two of it! Definitely a must-eat-snack at Gurney! :)

Famous Bah Kut Teh and Fish Meat Bee Hoon Soup Cafe at Sungai Dua, Penang.

What happens if one person wants to eat one thing, and the other person wants to eat another thing?

Yes, yes of course the answer is go eat at a coffee shop la or hawker place.

But what if also they don't want to go hawker place leh? no such thing, i know.. just pretend 'if' la..
And if both crave for bak kut teh and fish head bee hun at the same time?

Fear not, we have a perfect place for you! Not kopitiam, not restaurant also (duh!) :)

This place only sells two items. Yes, one humble stall in a corner of a house (I supposed it's their own house).

As you walk in, you place your order with this young man :)
his handwriting is nice (for a guy..)

the multitasking 'cook'

Quite a big space for a corner house..

More space on the other side..

Vege with pork floss ('bak hu' in hokkien)
He says: i lurve this... Maybe because I'm a fan of 'Bak Hu' or pork floss. The bah hu adds sweetness to the vegetables.
She says: Me no likey this one. I'm a vege person. The kind where I need vege almost everytime I eat! but this one, is just not to my liking, at all. The sauce they use tasted a lot like they just use a plain soy sauce. I mean like, there's no fragrance in it. The pork floss also not much taste eh. Bleh.

Bak Kut Teh (for 1 person) - RM7.50
He says: Hmmm so so la.. Typical bah kut teh but do give this a try. The crowd says it all.
She says: It's just an alright dish. Doesn't stand out. Quite pricey as we didn't order the internal parts and the yao char kuai (you tiao).

Fish Meat Bee Hun (for 1 person) - RM4.50
He says: Bah kut teh vs Bee hoon th'ng? BKT will always be my choice but this time,  BHT wins. The soup is pretty nice and special. =)
She says: Love this. Its surprisingly delicious. Fish meat nicely fried. The soup has got to be the bomb. SUPER NICE and it's like I can't stop drinking the soup. *drools* Also, pretty reasonable pricing.

The Bill.
He says: Reasonable and affordable.
She says: Pretty cheap I would say. It was overall, a good meal :)
