Route 9 at Bishop Street, Penang

Before we say anything, we would like to say HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HAPPY 2015 to all of you out there! Yes, we do realized it's already the third day into this amazing year. BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, RIGHT? :D

We hope you had a great countdown to 2015 and of course we hope that your 2015 is going to be an exciting one!

On New Year's Eve, we decided to go for 2014's last lunch with her family to celebrate what a great year 2014 has been. God is always good!

We didn't want to have the usual chinese meal. Instead we were looking for those places that serves set lunch. It's always nice to have a family or friend gathering with set lunch/set dinner kind of style.

He found out about this place and we decided to try it out. Set lunch FTW!

Can we just say that this place is TOO similar to a restaurant called Harvest In? IT'S TOO SIMILAR. Harvest In serves ala carte but when you add extra RM, you will get a set lunch.

So, we thought,"Okay, this is their competitor!"

Even more excited to do a review on them. Heh.

Gotta love them photos on the wall. All painted.

Long stretched kind of restaurant.

Quite packed during lunch hours.

Homemade mushroom soup, garlic bread and a glass of lemon tea/peach tea and dessert - add on RM6 on any main course to enjoy the set lunch promo.
He says: Pretty good. The garlic bread goes really well with creamy mushroom soup. And the peach tea? Tastes like peach tea.
She says: Soup is pretty decent. Garlic bread is nice. How can garlic bread go wrong? Oh wait.. if it's too hard then can. But this one nice and quite soft. The tea is of course normal. I think it's quite okay to add RM6 to make it a set lunch.

Chocolate Peppermint and Chocolate.
He says: Normal..
She says: Never liked peppermint. Normal lah.

Calamari Rings - RM9.50
Deep fried squid rings served with Thai chili sauce.
He says: Calamari rings can hardly go wrong right?
She says: Crunchy outside and soft inside and not oily! Love this one. This one is ala carte, not part of the set lunch price.

Feta Cheese Bruschetta - RM8.50
Freshly toasted garlic bread, with chopped Feta cheese, honey and herbs.
He says: The bread is soft yet crunchy on its sides. Feta cheese made it even better!
She says: The garlic on the bread is amazing. I think it's brilliant to add Feta cheese on top because it gives the salty flavor to it, but they should add more! This one also ala carte, not part of set lunch.

Basil Pesto with Chicken Breast - RM15.90
Grilled chicken breast served with basil pesto, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: Pretty nice mint/herb sauce to complement with the golden piece of chicken. The taste of the chicken is a little bit dry though.
She says: I normally love chicken breast but this one was a bit too tough to my liking. The basil pesto however was sooooo good. And excuse me Adrian Koay, *points to his comment* IT'S NOT MINT SAUCE! *rolls eyes* HAHAHA. It was a very good basil pesto with a hint of garlic taste to it that did not overpower the basil. One of the best pesto I've tried. Love it.

Cheesy Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu - RM15.90 (Chef's Pick)
Deep fried boneless chicken stuffed with chicken ham and cheese, served with homemade brown sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: The cheese oozes out like lava as I slice the stuffed chicken. Like it but the sauce could be better if more flavorful.
She says: It's a very big piece of stuffed chicken. I didn't really like this pick. Well, if this is a Chef's Pick, then I think they should modify it or add something to give it more oomphh. I had three bites and I didn't want more after that.

Grilled Teriyaki Salmon Fish - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)
Fresh salmon fish lightly grilled, served with Teriyaki sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: A no no for me to order that again.
She says: The teriyaki sauce is very starchy so it's kinda not very nice to eat. Salmon is just bleh.

Grilled Salmon with Creamy Cumin Sauce - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)
Grilled fresh salmon fish, served with creamy cumin sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: The cumin is a lot better than the teriyaki sauce but still, a lot can be improved.
She says: Salmon fish was neh. It's not crunchy outside on the skin so it's like quite sad lah. The cumin sauce, I don't think goes well with this fish but the sauce itself quite creamy and yummy. Very indian-ish flavor.

Coriander Fish - RM16.90
Baked fish fillet with coriander herbs, served with butter rice and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: Like this one. Somehow the fish tastes fresh and the coriander topping is awesome. Butter rice is little bit sticky though and could be better.
She says: The fillet is quite small. The best part (the skin) is glued to the foil so that's a waste. End up I had quite small portion of the entire fillet. The butter rice is amazing! Love the rice. The coriander herbs on top also very yummy.

Black Pepper Lamb Chop - RM20.90 (Chef's Pick)
Grilled lamb chop marinated with herbs, served with black pepper sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: Grilled nicely. The black pepper sauce is not bad.
She says: The sauce quite starchy. The lamb very big piece and grilled nicely. Not too hard.

Peppermint Lamb Chop - RM20.90
Grilled lamb chop marinated with herbs, served with peppermint sauce, mashed potato and daily fresh vegetables.
He says: Mint sauce tak cukup oohm. But boleh tahan la.
She says: The mint sauce is super nice. If it's a little thicker then I think it would have been one of the star dish.

Penang Bowl at Lebuh Farquhar, Penang

How often do you bowl? Whether with your friends or solo?

We don't bowl so much and even when we do, we go groups with our friends or family. So, this place called the Penang Bowl is pretty widely known within Penang people (we are assuming hoping that it's true) and probably one of the least place that people will suggest to have a meal at.

I mean, usually people only suggest to go to Penang Bowl to play bowling, right? Not to eat for sure.

So, one of the weekends, we decided to have lunch there with his two lovely sisters. Just lunch. No bowling or anything. She thought it was kinda weird to have lunch at a place where she used to always go but never eaten there before. We also heard that they changed to a new chef since months ago.

So yeah. We looked at the menu and some ordered set meals (A set meal comes with a soup of the day, main course, dessert and drink), and the others just ala carte.

Read more to see what we think about having a meal there :)

Honey Green Tea (comes with the set meal)
He says: Normal honey green tea.
She says: It's quite difficult to go wrong with honey green tea, unless it's homemade or something :) Thumbs up for this :)

Mushroom Soup (also comes with the set meal)
He says: Just a normal mushroom soup!
She says: Canned soup!

Mee Suah Tau - RM7.00
A type of noodle dish, which is a Chinese vermicelli soup (mee suah), cooked with many other ingredients such as crab meat or shark fin.
He says: Not a big fan of this but its quite good. The fragrance of the sauce is there.
She says: I used to always eat this everytime I got my braces tighten. The most important element I would say is the gravy. It has to have that "Ooomph!" and this one is kinda lacking of that. Quite a bland dish.

Szechuan Fried Rice - RM9.50 (ala carte) / RM14.90 (set meal)
He says: Hahha.. This one is just okay. Could be add more taste into it other than being spicy.
She says: Spicy and tasty. Just the way I love my fried rice to be. Oh, and quite moist too! I don't really like dry fried rice, so this one I quite like a lot. But the flavour is quite bland. It's just moist and spicy. Nothing special. Oh, and quite oily.

Kaya and Butter Toast - RM1.80
He says: Simply good! toast with butter and kaya never goes wrong!
She says: Not a big fan of kaya and butter toast. Always only order butter toast. This one however, quite nice. I have no idea why but I always liked dark brown colored kaya better than the greener ones.

Chinese Fried Rice - RM6.50 (ala carte) / RM10.90 (set meal)
He says: I like this one =) kao phang!!
She says: Quite nice. Got more aroma and flavour than the szechuan fried rice.

It is our saddest thing to say that we FORGOT to take the photo of the dessert. In fact, we kinda forgot what we had for dessert?

Well, it only shows to say that it wasn't that memorable. Hahaha. Okay, time for some bowling! :))

More More Thai Restaurant at Terengganu Road, Penang

We eat so much Thai food that we can be Thai people legally. No joke. We eat way too much of thai food. If she were to invest in opening up a restaurant, it will definitely 110% be Thai Restaurant! CONFIRM!

Dinner date with his family! In fact, it was his parents whom suggested this place to us. I tell you, spend time with your family and you'll be surprised of certain things that you will find out/learn. It's amazing.

We both love family dinners! First because bonding with family is what matters most in both our lives. Two because we get to order more choices of food and no need struggle to finish the food. Thirs is because we don't have to pay (at least not yet) :)

We both have never heard/seen about this place, at all. It's almost like the whole Penang Island, any corner got Thai Food, we both sure know ehh. Well, sort of. Such thai food stalker we are. Anyways, time for some comments on the mummum.

Tomyam Seafood a.k.a Tomyam Talel - RM35
He says: Sawadeekap! This tomyam, good + good! Its more to 'lemak' type of tomyam but you can also taste the sourness and spiciness at the same time. =D
She says: Thumbs up! It's sour and spicy at the balanced ratio. Also, one thing I really like about this soup is that it's quite creamy/milky/smooth. Very pleasant feeling while drinking this one.

Green Curry Chicken a.k.a Kan Koy Wan - RM15
He says: My mum's favourite! haha. Smells great but the taste is just so so.  It's my mum's favourite though!
She says: Chicken meat is not hard and that's a good sign. The curry is nice. I wouldn't say extraordinary great and different. But it is towards the nice and will-order-again-perhaps!

Prawn Cake a.k.a Tot Man Kun (6 pieces) - RM24
He says: My favourite! Garing tau! Recommended! =D
She says: This is very yummy! Very crunchy on the outside and pretty soft on the inside. It almost tasted like fish balls in donuts' form. I prefer eating this on its own than to eat it with rice! Order this as appetizer! TOTALLY YUMS.

Eggplant (brinjal) with minced pork and bean paste - RM8
He says: Hmmmm.. Not a big fan of brinjals but the sauce tastes quite good.
She says: I'm an ok-ok person with brinjal. Got seasons eh. Sometimes I like it and other times, I just won't bother having it. The way they cook it with minced pork and bean paste somehow makes it really appetizing. Yeah, APPETIZING is the perfect word to describe it. I bet for those who doesn't eat eggplant, after you try this dish, you might just fall in love with it :))

Otak-Otak a.k.a Hor Muk - RM15
He says: Otak-otak! The taste of the santan in the  is really strong but its not bad. Quite pricey though..
She says: Pretty normal to me. I still think that otak-otak is overpriced in every Thai restaurant. I mean, it's like so small and so pricey for its size. And its a dish where you eat one mouthful and you have to go back for more!

Steamed Fish Thai Style - RM40
He says: YOU GOTTA TRY THIS. It's amazing, really. Its spicy and soury to the perfection!
She says: The BOMB of the night. I can really go speechless with this one. The sauce/soup/gravy is mindblowing! It's sooooo good. So good that as I'm commenting on it, my saliva literally feels gathered in my throat. AHH! And the fish is pretty huge, so I would say that RM40 for this dish is totally worth it! TOTALLLY! Oh, and it's really spicy! LIKE REALLY REALLY SPICY! No kidding!

Bountiful Kitchen Restaurant at Jones Road, Penang

So, the family heard about this new place that serves set lunch and off we went to try it out. I tell you, the two authors of this blog are gonna gain so much weight that no one will be able to recognize us anymore, if we don't exercise! HAHA. The pros and cons of being a food blogger huh. But so far, we are loving it! :)

Set lunch.

Interior of the restaurant is quite modern looking and nice.

Drinks (honey green tea or iced lemon tea)
He says: Just like any normal honey green tea.
She says: This one quite nice :) hooray to honey green tea!

Soup of the day
He says: I can't even remember the name of this soup! Green pea soup? Looks green but tastes empty. Nevertheless, the soup compliments the bread really well. =)
She says: Pretty tasteless to me. Didn't finish it. and I am usually someone who finish my soup!

Cumin Chicken (Signature Dish)
He says: The one is quite good. The chicken is a boneless one with cumin sauce poured over it. Also, it comes together with vegetables and mashed potato.
She says: Not bad.

Kapitan Fish
He says: YUMMY. The gravy is really good. It comes with garden vegetables and briyani rice. The briyani rice is not aromoatic enough though..
She says: Like the nasi briyani and the spicy gravy on top.

Spaghetti Fish Masala
He says: This is something new! It is some kind of western and indian fusion thing! Spaghetti and curry together. Quite a nice combination though.. 0.0
She says: Pretty weird combination. Curry and spaghetti? Hmm.. Me no likey..

Orange Lemon Fish
He says: Tastes really weird. Orange+Lemon? Decide either one man!
She says: This is not nice. And it's not filling at all.

Dessert
He says: Hahaha.this one remind me of the rainbow Paddlepop ice cream i love last time. Ok la. Didn't try that at the end. "Too full"
She says: In my most honest opinion, this has got to be the most disgusting ice cream I have ever put into my mouth. YUCK!

And then, we ordered ala carte too. This one is called dragon silk (RM7.90)
He says: Wah good ah! I like.. Try this one peeps! =D
She says: I kinda like this one. Its more like fried crispy fish paste but it's nice, esp with the Thai chilli sauce.
