BBQ Chicken Wings at Queensbay Drive, Penang

SNACK TIME!

Oh how we love snacks! Okay, maybe not so much for him cos wanna jaga badan, konon. HAHA.

So, we decided not to eat in Queensbay cos most of the makans in there very pricey. So, we walked out to the 'new happening place'! which she started calling it the 'Queensbay Drive'! :)

And because this stall was highly recommended by her dad and youngest sister, so we must try la.

Not only chicken wings that they sell, but also bishop's nose (bet you don't know what that is! hah)

It's chicken backside! :)

He says: Everyone out there! you gotta try this! Look for this stall that has no name. Haha! Its only RM1.50 per chicken wing and the 'chicken backside' is only RM1. This thingy is super good as it is marinated perfectly and a layer of honey brushed around it before and after the wings are 'bar-be-qued'!
She says: Chicken backside, me no like and me no eat. Chicken wings, me LOVED it! Very well marinated I would say and after they bbq it, they will coat it with honey! Oh how the yums!

Also, got extra-long-punya-sausage!
He says: This jumbo hotdog is OKOK. It tastes like... a hotdog? just that it is a long one.. =D
She says: Okayla. It tasted nice maybe cos we were hungry and if you order this, make sure you mix the chili sauce and black pepper. Very nice together! :)

Look at the crowd. That was just like around 5pm. We waited quite long for ours, but it was worth it la cos it tasted so gooooood!

Newday Restaurant at Lorong Selamat - Penang

Penang people is famous for this answer, 'Cincai la'. It means anything in hokkien. It's almost like impossible for us to immediately give a place when the question is asked, 'where wanna eat ar?'

Some days, we find it difficult to decide cos there's just so many places we want to go! Unless one is okay with anything and another one gets to decide! :)

She was craving for porridge and had this place in mind.

It's really like having economy rice or porridge except that you get to order something else that they would cook like choo char.

Some of the 'already made' dishes.

White rice and sweet potato porridge.

Some of the dishes we ordered.
He says: 1) The 'tau yu bak' is really really nice! Tryyyyyyyy!
2) The 'guih chai' and the 'tau hu' is normal...
She says: Love their sticky black porky thing! Sweet and tasty! The rest is normal.

Stir fried 'ong tay chai' (King's vege?)
He says: This one smells really good! you can like pick the vege that you want and ask them to fry it instantly for you like 'choo char'!
She says: This is not from the ready made place. We ordered it and then only they cook on the spot! LOVE THIS ONE! the sambal.. FULAMAK!

Otak-Otak and 'Pai Kut Ong' (Sweet Sauce Pork Spare Ribs)
He says: The otak-otak tastes weird! =S But the pai kut ong is really good.
She says: Otak-Otak is yucky. The sweet pork is nice. soft and sweet.

'Boey Chai'
He says: Down.
She says: errr.. super oily as you can see in the picture. and super yucky too.

Heng Heng Tomyam Restaurant at Bukit Mertajam - Penang

So we heard there's new tomyam competitor thats apparently nicer than Raja Uda's.

Definitely must visit this place and review la. Tomyam okay! Another all-time favourite!

We started the journey by setting the address as none of us have been there and had no idea how the place look like even. Our Garmin brought us there and back safely. Ah, thank God for GPS huh. It took us around 20 minutes to reach the place from the Penang Bridge.

We arrived at around 10pm, and the place was CROWDED with humans!

Writings in chinese (Sorry, none of us read chinese! )

Ingredients.

The tomyam paste.

Kitchen

Hers - RM10.00
(Strips of abalone, minced meat, fried fish fillets and vegetable)

His - RM16.00
(Taiwan sausages, Fried fish fillets, quail eggs, different types of fishballs, abalone strips, fried prawn mantis meat)

His is tomyam maggi and hers is tomyam moy (porridge)
He says: Fooolahhhhhh... This THING looks and tastes RED HOT! I really really really like this place. To describe the tomyam,
1) Super fast =)
2) Super spicy!
3) Super KAO.
People, you gotta try this. Even those that couldn't take spicy stuff. I challenge you! =p
Nevertheless, if you do not like tomyam, there are also other dishes that you can try..
Tips: Take more abalone strips! =D

She says: We didn't wait long for it! It was like surprisingly fast! The moment I took the first sip, it was like amazingly crazy spicy! To all those who can't eat spicy food, do not attempt this! haha. I'm someone who loves spicy food also struggle like mad! It's definitely not gonna be my last time there!

So spicy that they provide rolls of toilet papers for customers to use. I mean like they didn't even put it in a nice round container, but just bare like that on tables. Looked hilarious. But of course they save a lot by using this than those box tissues that will cost them a bomb. This is definitely one smart move. heh.

Agua Restaurant at Straits Quay, Penang

He: *on the phone* Eh, we got invitation la!
She: Hurh? Who getting married?
He: For our food blog wan la!
She: Seriously? *sarcasm mode*
He: *straight read out the whole email*
She: OH MY GOSH.
He: I know righttt!

The conversation explains it all, didn't it? So, we were both invited to Agua Restaurant in Straits Quay for a Paella Cookout! (Along with other food bloggers and journalist for magazines). We had no clue what Paella was but still very excited for the night to come!

Knowing that we were going to eat at this restaurant, we went around and asked a few of our friends who have actually eaten in this restaurant. We got mixed reviews, so we didn't really know what to expect. We did not further research on this restaurant so that we will have like 'fresh opinions' spontaneously on the kind of food that we were gonna eat. Because we like surprises! haha :)

Let us say no more. People say a picture speaks of a thousand words, right? So, do feast your eyes on the pictures that we took. With a really good camera that died halfway and with our Samsung babies :)

One of Agua's signature dish.

and the show begins...

the fresh ingredients for Paella.

Imported Paprika.

Saffron (world's most expensive herbs, so we heard)
That's RM500 worth of Saffron that she's holding.

Special type of rice used in this dish.

After twenty five minutes of wait..

While waiting, we were served with a glass of Sangria, crispy garlic bread and fresh salad. Plus with lots of getting to know each other.

Garlic bread.
He says: Normal.
She says: Like any garlic bread. This one is quite hard as I find it hard to bite (maybe its my braces! Hmmm)

Sangria
A mixture of red wine and seasonal fruit slices.
He says: Wine plus fruit skin! haha. Simply refreshing =)
She says: This is definitely my favourite! I would have refilled it thousand of times if I could. And I usually don't like red wine but this is just exceptional! Perfect for hot days!

Fresh salad
He says: Never really fancied salads before this, but this one is really good. Must be the combination of all the salads plus olive oil!
She says: Love the salad. Like it that they don't used mayo type of dressing. Its dressing is light and I think made with olive oil. Avocado definitely is the winner among all other ingredients inside! :)

Ladies and Gentleman, introducing to you, PAELLA!
RM42.90 per serving (must share! two person at least!)
He says: Honestly, i didn't expect it to me so good. This thing is really special. How do I start? hmmm.. smells good! and the texture of the 'rice' is a little sticky. Both the chicken and seafood paella tastes great but I think the latter is better! Guys, this dish is the way to go and is a 100% must try! However, eat it as soon as it comes! Tastes better when it is smoking hot! One more thing, you also get to see how this dish is cooked before eating it. -.o

She says: This makes me speechless. When I smell it, it smells spicy. And when I eat it, it's spicy but not spicy. It's that good! And I couldn't just stop eating. Every time I eat it, I want more. And at first I thought it was not gonna be enough since the portion looks so small nia, but it was filling like mad. I couldn't even eat supper after that. Seafood is definitely my favourite! :) It's pricey but overall, its so yummy and healthy!

The ladies.
