Coconut Ice-Cream at Lovelocks, Chulia Street, Penang

DESSERTS!

We are NOT desserts people, at all.

But then, at one time she suddenly had this madness craving towards coconut ice cream and the only that we could find or know of is the small Thai stalls in Midlands. At the same time somehow, we heard about this coconut ice cream over at Lovelocks. And no need to say d, of course the girl went straight there to give it a try! Let's see what we both think about it! Oh btw, that's the only thing they sell at Lovelocks!

Toppings of which you can add to your ice cream.

Homemade daily made Coconut Ice Cream.
4 scoops with 3 toppings at only RM6!

He says: 2 thumbs up! The ice cream melts in your mouth smoothly and the taste of the coconut just spreads through your mouth! really! Give it a try kay!
She says: I didn't want the toppings because then they will give me one extra scoop. Hehe. THIS IS THE BEST COCONUT ICE CREAM EVER! I mean.. BEST ICE CREAM I HAVE EVER TASTED! Can't beat Haagen Daaz or Baskin Robbins. It's smooth and the taste of it is strong but not overly strong. And it's just so refreshing and appetizing! No kidding! Got to try this you all. I kid you not! :D

After you purchase some certain amount, they will give you a lock on which you can write you and your lover's name and lock it there. Pretty cool.

Heaven Gate Restaurant at King Street, Penang

The actual plan for dinner was at The Sire with his family for a nice evening together, until we saw this majestic entrance of the new restaurant just few doors away. We walked in, and the place kinda blew us away. We decided to give it a try :) let's see how it goes. Also, we have two special guests that'll be commenting too! :) (please don't mind our photo quality.. all taken with smartphones)

The cosy, romantic-ish set-up.

They even have bar/lounge upstairs for some chilling.

Pretty and simple menu.

Some of the set-ups that drew our attention.

Everyone, please meet Jaryn and Joe.

Salade de Poult croustillant (Crispy Chicken Salad) - RM12.90
He says: This thing came with a plate that shape almost like a flying saucer! Haha. Im not a big fan of salad but the sauce on top tastes good =)

She says: Love the dressing and the cubes of chicken fillet. I think the portion should be bigger. So small, quite pathetic lo.

Joe says: Not bad. Dressings was OK and the chicken tasted like Chicken McDeluxe, which is not exactly a bad thing.

Jaryn says: I was on "diet" (which lasted one day!); which explains why I ordered this dish as my mains. My dish was the first to arrive and it got a lot of attention from all the hungry faces. They looked like they would steal my salad anytime! I could smell the fried chicken the moment it was served; like KFC. The chicken was crispy and soft. I liked it. I'm a huge fan of fried chicken. Who isnt? The dressing was really good in my opinion. Flavourful without being overpowering. I could do a bigger portion though. Overall; thumbs-up.

Francaises Poulet épicé (Spicy Grill Chicken) - RM22.90
He says: Its the sauce again. A bit spicy and sweet to near perfection. However, it came with the chicken bones. So, if you wanna order this, prepare to eat like how you eat in Nandos or KFC. But it is still a yes yes for me.

She says: Spicy what? The sauce is sweetish. No spicy, nope. I like the dish. Just a like. One thing I really don't like or understand is that why would they serve these kind of chicken-meal with bones as well? It's like I'm all dressed up to eat in a really fine looking restaurant but upon eating this dish, it kinda ruins the whole mood. I think it would be better if it's boneless. They literally gave me the part with wing attached to it. Downs.

Joe says: This one is pretty good to.. Flavor was alright but there's nth spicy about this dish for me. LOL.

Jaryn says: Spicy grilled chicken: More like, normal grilled chicken. Come on, you don't name your dish "spicy" when it isn't spicy at all! Not in Penang anyway. I remember nodding my head in approval when I tasted this dish; but when I try to recall its taste now, I can barely recall. I liked it.; I think? But I don't think this is the dish that I would order the next time I'm there.

Rouge de Poult Chop Vin (Red Wine Chicken Chop) - RM21.90
He says: This thing is good stuff if you're a big fan of chicken chop! Deep fried chicken topped with a very special sauce that has a mild taste of wine. But, I'll go for the other dishes next time =)

She says: Typical chicken chop. Unique somehow because of the sauce that is made from wine. Not too strong though. just at the right taste. And again, they serve chicken with their bones. No good.

Joe says: Can't really remember how it taste like anymore. But I think this dish is slightly better than the average chicken chop you can get elsewhere.

Jaryn says: Mom's chicken chop was gooooooooooooood. Would order that the next time I go there!

Thon Caponata (Tuna with Caponata) - RM24.90
He says: Lo.0k at that! Served nicely. Grilled medium rare tuna. Its a bit crunchy outside and smooth inside. Like it. Try this!!

She say: Quite a huge disappointment when I ate it. I took half a bite and gave him the other half. Didn't like it.

Joe says: Slightly dry. Not much flavor. First time having grilled tuna so don't really know how it should taste like. The dressing that accompanies the fish tasted weird for me (sweet and sourish at the same time hmmm). Overall, wasn't really a good dish for me.

Jaryn says: I was looking forward to tasting this but i was very disappointed with it!! The texture of the fish was just wrong. The flavour was weird. The sauce was...forgettable. No thumbs-up for this one!

Saveur de Haricot Saumon Poe lé (Flavour Bean Pan Seared Salmon) - RM28.90

He says: It's the sauce again! Love it.. The salmon is really fresh.. One thing, you gotta be careful when you're eating this as there is a lot of bones..

She says: Everything about the fish is all good. Only one thing that kinda ruins (for me) the whole dish. It's tooo bone-y! Every bite I take I had to carefully search the fillet through with my tongue. And one actually got stuck between my braces. So for that, a BIG NO for this one. How can anyone serve salmon with bones eh? Ughh. Makes me angry. Kidding kidding! :)

Joe says: Was OK. Nothing fancy here.

Jaryn says: I LIKE THIS ONE! A lot of fish bones inside though! not very pleasant to eat when one has to constantly chew for the bones ey? But I liked this a lot more than the tuna dish.

Dorade Grillée Vin (Wine Grilled Sea Bream) - RM28.90

He says: One of the best dish of the evening for me =) This is my first time eating sea bream and I found that this sea creature tastes like unagi! hahaha. And, yes, I love unagi!

She says: Probably my top favorite of all. It's so similar to eating unagi. So similar. The fish is so lemak-ish and the sauce was just fork-licking-good. Love this to bits! And no bones! Yiippee.

Joe says: Creamy texture. Very nice. I like anything that taste like unagi! :)

Jaryn says: I like it!!!! And dad finished the entire plate!! He must've loved it tooo.

Signature Marble Cheesecake.

He says: Its not bad.. Just nice as it is not too sweet.

She says: Like any normal cake. I like this one better because it's not that sweet *health conscious*

Joe says: I liked the cheesecake! Quite dense and the flavor was just about right for me. Thumbs up :)

Jaryn says: a very typical cheesecake. Which is both good and bad. Typical means it's edible, it tastes like cheesecake. I liked it and enjoyed it; but I won't go around telling my friends, "WOWWWW YOU'VE GOT TO TRY THEIR CHEESECAKE!". Overall it's...well..just another cheesecake.

Hafiz Tomyam Opposite Sunrise McDonald, Penang

Hungry at the time when everyone is supposed to be sleeping. Nasi Beratur would be perfect but it was too far from where we were. HUNGRY just before a midnight movie! HOW!? The inside of Gurney is practically closed and eerily quiet. Haha. The boy brought us to a place, just opposite Sunrise McD, very near to the Gurney Drive's roundabout.

Just like any Malay stalls, they have dinner sets for at least 2 pax.

Nasi paprik. ayam.
He says: Paprik is one of my favourite Malay dish but not the one here. Doesn't have the "UMMM".
She says: NOT NICE AT ALL.

Maggi Soup tak mau pedas.
He says: Hmmm.. Not really niceee.. Jack didn't finish this!
She says: It tasted so weird that all of us couldn't finish it. NO!

Bee Hoon Kungfu (bee hoon deep fried with eggs)

He says: Ini best! My favourite! haha.. try this! Note that this dish is not only quite spicy but also sour.
She says: The gravy is ok ok only. Nothing to shout about, really. The deep fried beehoon is unique la. But after eating a few spoonful, jelak d. I will not order this lo next time.

Roti Canai at Transfer Road, Penang

Breakfast is that kind of time/day when you feel like you just want to wake up early and make the tummy happy. We don't always eat breakfast because we think that sleep is way more important and needed. But usually on Sundays, she have that kind of mood to wake up early and makan, just before church starts at 10am! And he doesn't usually have problems with that. He can be out with his friends playing dota till the wee hours in the morning and still takes her out for breakfast the next day. All done willingly. She's got herself a keeper, for sure! :)

Anyways, she decided that we should eat at this place since both her sister and niece wanted roti canai as well. They have been there since they were much younger and it was one of her favorite place to eat roti canai. It was his first time there and let's see what he thinks of the place!

Mass production of roti canais.

Nasi lemak.
He says: Not good.. Tastes weird..
She says: It is horrible! Probably the worst I've ever tasted of nasi lemak in Penang! It tasted almost like it's few-days-ago's product! :S Ewww..

Toast bread with half boiled eggs.
He says: Looks good but nothing special really. Not recommended =/
She says: No taste at all. Got butter like no butter nia. Blehh.

Roti Canai plain and roti canai with egg.
He says: Gotta say that the roti canai really tastes different from other. But for me, I would go for other normal roti canais. This one is just.. flat and not crispy.
She says: I will always go for the egg one. More texture to chew. Heh. Nothing special la.

Chicken Curry/Sambal.
He says: Good thing! =) This gravy is hot and spicy!
She says: CHICKEN! Kuah manyak pedas. It means it's really spicy. It used to be thicker, but now a bit too watery to my liking. Still like the taste of it though.

Mutton Curry/Sambal.
He says: Mix this with the chicken curry! Sums up to be something really unique =)
She says: I love this one. Same thing la. A bit too watery. I prefer this one over chicken's cos this one more spicy. And a lil more thicker. Overall, I think their quality kinda dropped. Sad case.

Dhal curry (not spicy)
He says: Hmm.. not really good for me..
She says: Colored water to me. Yuck.

Lok Lok at Padang Brown, Penang

We LOVE LOVE LOVE tea time! And we only have that on the weekends. More like Saturdays or weekdays when she doesn't have to work. It's like those time of the day where you feel so relax and lazy and all you wanna do is just eat. Eat yummy food and make your tummy happy.

We always come here. Most of the time we will be here. He comes here so often (since young) that the aunty knows him and calls him 'Ah Boy'! She comes here quite often too with her family.

We would like to think that this lok lok place is actually quite well-known among the Penang people. Just look at the crowd. And it stays like that the moment the stall is open, which is usually around 3pm onwards.

The spread of varieties of foods.
He says: My favourite lok lok! =) Loveeee fried wantons, loh bak and the "ju hu eng chai" (cuttlefish kangkong).
She says: All the raw foods are fresh. I like the fried wantons. Not so much meat inside but it's super yummy when you eat it with their spicy sauce.

Sauce 1: Satay-like-sauce.
He says: Satay sauce... Dip ur pick into this sauce alone is good enough! =D really! hahaha
She says: I never really liked satay-kind-of-sauce. But when he asked me to give it a try, i was shocked. Shocked to find out that this satay sauce is different from any I've tasted. There's like a twist in it. Like they cooked it with some other ingredients that I would say 'makes it special'! It's really thumbs up!

Sauce 2: Spicy sauce.
He says: Spicy and a little bit sweet. Mix this with the satay sauce for better taste!
She says: Because of my love and passion towards anything apicy, this I love too much. I usually dip all my cooked food into this sauce. It's not only just spicy, but it has a very nice aromatic taste. Must try!
