Mikki-G Restaurant at D'Piazza Mall, Penang

Dinner with good friends is always good! And also the best ways for us to try as many food as we can, without having to pay for all. Heh. Smart people works smartly!

This time we traveled to the other side of the island to this place called Mikki-G. Never heard of it before. Never eaten there before too. So, it was surprise surprise meal. We thought it would be a good meal since our pastor suggested it! And the food surprised us both! :)

Chicken Cordon Bleu (RM12.50)
Stuffed with chicken ham and cheese. Served with mashed potato, stir-fried vegetables and creamy brown sauce.

He says: I like this one.. You can taste the cheeze oozing in your mouth when you bite it. =D
She says: A typical chicken cordon bleu I supposed. Gravy is quite yummylicious! :)

Spaghetti Carbonara (RM10.90)
With chicken ham and button mushroom.

He says: This one was just okay for me.. A bit too creamy but no much flavour to it.
She says: Never a big fan of creamy carbonara pasta. This one is quite alright. Nothing special to shout about.

Spaghetti Primavera (RM9.90)
Sprnig vegetable.
He says: This dish caught my tongue that night. Tasty! Would definitely go back there for this spaghetti.
She says: When I looked at it, I was like, "Okay.." but the moment I tasted it, I wanted more! I wanted to like order another plate for myself although I already have a main course. Haha. This one is definitely THUMBS UP!

Crispy Chicken Chop (RM9.90)
Deep fried chicken served with fries, coleslaw and creamy brown sauce.
He says: Normal chicken chop...
She says: Too fried-ish. Usual chicken chop..

Roast Beef Tenderloin (RM18.50)
He says: Like this one.. Tender like tenderloin? haha. The sauce is nice also!
She says: And this is my main course! Like the sauce. The meat is alright. Some of them quite tough. Quite.

Spaghetti Seafood Marinara (RM13.90)

He says: Just another typical spaghetti for me...
She says: Honestly, my mom cooked better pasta. So, maybe because my mom is really good in pasta stuff, my tastebud on it kinda increased too? I don't know.. I don't really like the fried stuff.. Too oily to my liking..

Seafood Combo (RM12.90)
Deep fried fish, prawn, calamari with fries, coleslaw and tartar sauce.

He says: Hahaha. Deep fried stuff is my favourite. Its a little bit dry. Tips: Dip it into the tartar sauce. =)
She says: Don't like! Too fried la. I mean, it's all fried! And there's no like special unique taste also.

Griiled Fish Fillet (RM11.50)
Served with mashed potato, stir-fried vegetables and creamy lemon sauce.
He says: Tastes weird but goood.. Nicely grilled... But the creamy lemon sauce is a NONO for me!
She says: Normal fillet meal. Dipping sauce is funny to me. No idea what kind of taste also.

Double Scoop Ice Cream with Whipped Cream (RM3.90)
He says: Goody!
She says: Love the topping! Ice cream is always good :)

Borbie Cheese Potato and Snack at Gurney Plaza, Penang

She always walked past this stall and always wanted to give it a try but we never actually stood outside and order. Why? Because for a potato baked kind of food, she felt that it was a bit too pricey. So, we always just walked past it.

Then, one day when we were heading towards Old Town for just some snacks and coffee time, she decided that she wanted to try this time. "Do it for food blog sake!" Yeah.. the reason that always wins. Hahaha. At first, we waited like a good 30 minutes because the lady apparently went to the "toilet"! So okay.. Determination must be there if you want to eat something. Haha!

We finally ordered. And when it came (which was surprisingly fast), we were also given a cup of Iced Lemon Tea. So, it's like Buy 1, Free 1 Iced Lemon Tea. Let's see what we think of it.

The many flavors of Borbie.

Borbie Special (RM8.50)
He says: Hmmmmmmmmm... Like the pineapples, sausages and brocolli but the corn + weird cheesy sauce made it a bit of a funny taste. Just okay for me.=S
She says: The moment I laid my eyes on the food, I straight speechless. It doesn't look appetizing at all. Hah. The potato feels like its just made of powder instant kind. The gravy to it was a bit too cheesy and creamy for me. After a few mouthful, I felt so "jelak" with it. Don't like it, sorry. Too expensive also for a piece of potato snack.

Coconut Ice Cream at Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram Temple, Lorong Burma, Penang

C O C O N U T. One for you and one for  me.

Nothing is more perfect than few scoops of coconut ice cream on a hot sunny Sunday! NOTHING!

Just to let you all know how we both fell in love with coconut ice cream. It all started when we decided to try the ice cream out at a shop called "Love Locks" which you can find the post HERE. And not long after that, the shop closed down. SO SAD OKAYYY! Then, for few months we went searching in this whole entire island (okay, maybe not whole island but we did went around) to look for coconut ice cream but couldn't find.

And then finally, we found this place and the first time we went there, it was closed because it was her daughter's wedding. So yeah, then this time we went back and SO HAPPY THAT IT WAS OPEN!! SO SO HAPPY!

The stall is in the Burmese Temple along Burma Lane. The moment you step inside, it's on your left.

OH SUCH HAPPINESS LANDED THAT DAY!

Three scoops of homemade coconut ice cream, topped with sweet corn and crunchy nuts - RM2.50
(You can choose to eait it with a cone or even with bread)
He says: I'm a big big fan of coconut ice creams! I'll say this one is just okay though.. The flavour or fragrance of the coconut/santan is not strong enough. But maybe its because of the toppings that covered the richness of the ice cream. Would go back there again because its the only coconut ice cream I know of in Penang but I would not add any toppings on it the next time.
She says: Best flavour for ice cream ever! This one is not the best we tried but still very yummy. The word I will use to describe it would be REFRESHING! I thought at first the toppings were quite weird to be eaten together, but I kinda love it! The sweet corn together with the peanuts. Yums.

Isaribi Tei Japanese Restaurant at Chow Thye Road, Penang

She saw this deal (AGAIN!) on Groupon and immediately bought it as she really wanted to try those mentioned in the set menu. RM88 for 2pax. That's like 44% discount of its original price. Actually, we will never order so much in a Japanese Restaurant and to total up to that amount! Imagine with that money, we could have better meals by the roadside. But again, cannot compare la since this is Japanese food whatt. Our favorite Japanese restaurant will still be Yuzu. Sadly, they don't have one in Penang. Oh well...

Do enjoy our photos as you can notice that we have included our name/brand into each photos. She discovered PicMonkey and she had fun editing pictures because it's very user friendly. Sort of. So yeah, enjoy reading us! :)

Front entrance of the Japanese Restaurant.

The very green-themed-garden-like walkway to the restaurant.

Inside of the restaurant.

Grilled Tuna Maki (RM25.00)
Grilled maki sushi rolls with tuna.
He says: Grilled perfectly.. The sticky rice is a bit dry though..
She says: Very unique taste! I didn't even know that this is tuna! Yummy. Love this one.

Shima-aji Cavlor and Salmon Carpaccio (RM25.00)
Special Carpaccio dish made with striped jack fish and salmon.
He says: The best! what a combo right there! People go try this one.. =)
She says: Pretty colors right? The salmon and avocado is perfecto! It's very yummy! The avocado makes it so creamy and just compliments the raw fish. And it's so fresh! OH SO FRESH! Love this dish to the max!

Sanma Kabayaki (RM18.00)
Japanese saury marinated with teriyaki sauce and grilled.
He says:  Probably my first time eating Sanma fish. Smells like... fish oil? probably because of the rich fish oil inside this fish! Haha. 2 thumbs up! After eating this, I burped and it smells really fishy!
She says: I don't and never will like this kind of long fish. I don't know how to explain it. But the way they grill this goodness is heavenly! The sweet kind of sauce they used is finger licking good good! Sweet and tasty! :)

King Prawn Thermidor (RM40.00)
King prawn stuffed with cheese and cream and served au gratin style
(au gratin refers to a dish that is baked with a topping of seasoned breadcrumbs and cheese)
He says: Look at that! Just imagine the cheese and prawn all over your mouth! fuuulah!
She says: Prawn is fresh. The cheese is very chewy which is such a lovely thing. And the sauce that accompanies the baked prawn is very nice. Quite creamy and delicious. Thumbs up for this one! :)

Tai Shabu Shabu (RM35.00)
Mini steamboat dish with fresh red snapper cuts.
He says:  The soup is really really really sweet. The mushroom and bean curd is really delicious too.. I think the can cut down on the sugar though..
She says: Mini steamboat! Yay! The cuts of fresh fish fillet is super fresh. The soup is sweet. perhaps too sweet for me. Too sweet to drink a lot of time. If its less sweet, then it'll be like so perfect! :)

Black Sesame Homemade Ice Cream (RM5 per scoop)
He says: No way I'm not gonna eat that again..
She says: Err.. it's alright. It's unique because I never tasted one ice cream like that. It's like eating the fried sesame bun called " han chin peng"! Haha.

Famous Fried Fish and Chicken (Malay Food) at Tanjung Bungah, Penang

MALAY FOOD ON SUNDAYS!

That's like our usual routined Sunday meals with a bunch of hungry people after our weekly captain ball games! We uaully settle for Malay food because.. actually I have no idea why.. It's like Sundays ARE for Malay meals. Haha.

Anyway, though this one was all the way up north just before Batu Ferringhi, it never stops us. Nothing stops us. Good meals like this makes everyone happy :) So yeah, we were there at 9pm and all their fried chicken, sold out! Only fried fish was left. A few of our friends managed to order a few fried chicken so good thing for us, we get to try both of their main dish out! :)

It was a good Sunday meal on a nice Sunday night :)

Freshly fried on the spot :)

Bowls of curry that comes together with the set meals.

Complimentary dish: Malaysian style salad.
He says: Not a big fan of sambal belachan but this one is a bit sour..
She says: The sambal belachan is yummy. Not super great but still, pretty yummy!

Thier signature black sauce with diced tomatoes, onions and cili padi.
He says: Yummy yummy! Its a must when i comes to eating the deep fried fish!
She says: The black sauce is sweet. The onions, tomatoes and cili padi in it just makes it even better. It's crunchy sweet and a lil juicy because of the tomatoes. LOVE THE SAUCE for sure! :)

Fish/Chicken Set (RM6/RM7)
Comes with a bowl of curry and a lady's finger.

He says: Typical curry..
She says: Just like any normal curry. Not that yummy.

Fried Fish (RM5 if you order only fish)
White Pomfret/Ikan Bawal
He says: Thumbs up! You can literally eat the whole fish! Crispy and hot. Love it!
She says: DELICIOUS when it's super hot. It's so crispy that you can chew every part of the fish. Even better when you eat it with their signature black sauce!

Fried Chicken
He says: Fried chicken! Very hard for any fried chicken to go wrong unless its cold and soft already.
She says: It's pretty huge for RM6 for one set. To me, it tasted a lot like any normal fried chicken. Nothing very special on this fried chicken. If I were to choose, I would choose the fried fish over the fried chicken anytime!

Yada Thai Cuisine Restaurant at Burmah Road, Penang

We just came back from Thailand! WHAT A GREAT MISSION TRIP IT WAS. We stayed with the kids in a Christian Orphanage and eat the kind of food they eat everyday. We are blessed beyond anything. Oh and we loved loved the food there in this land of sawadeekaaa! So, here another Thai food review on a Thai restaurant that just started not too long ago :)

This one is also, another online meal. This time through LivingSocial. 4 pax 5 course meal at only RM36!  Get to try new restaurant, why not! She has this habit of spending on these online websites. I have no idea whether its a good thing or not also. Oh well, as long as it's still under control, I guess. Haha.

Anyways, we were there with her sister and brother in law over dinner and we ordered extra one dish as the set ones are pretty dry. Let's see what we both think of this Thai Cuisine Restaurant in Penang. I have to say that Penang is over populated with Thai Restaurants. You can easily find them at almost every corner in Penang. So, I guess, our standards for Thai Food is pretty high, considering that she loves LOVES Thai food and we eat them quite often. Haha :)

Very few tables set-up in quite a spacious shop. It's not that crowded for sure.

Stir Fry Kangkung with Sambal
He says: Kinda like this one. Just nice and not so oily.
She says: For a kangkung dish, it's pretty sucky. Nothing unique/special at all. Quite bland too actually.

Spicy Jelly Noodles with Kerabu

He says: A mixture of spiciness, sourness and sweetness. Like this one although I'm not a huge fan of this dish.
She says: Love this dish to the max! It's sour and sweet and a lil spicy. Okay, maybe not a lil spicy. I think it's pretty spicy but it's sooo good! I think the fish sauce that they use in this dish makes it very yummy. VERY YUMMY!

Stir Fry Lala Clams with Special Sauce

He says: Hahaha lala! Just okay..
She says: Seafood lover, me! These clams are pretty okay. Nothing special too.

Fried Pork with Garlic

He says: I like like like this one.. Smells really good.
She says: Another favorite of mine. The garlic-ish sauce that accompanies the pork is super delicious! I didn't like the pork meat so much though. It's too hard. So hard to chew and swallow! Definitely overcooked!

Tomyam Seafood Soup

He says: Just so so.. Not creamy, sour and spicy enough as it looks.
She says: At first, it looks creamy and looks so good. But I didn't like it. I had like only less than 10 spoonful of it. Not spicy enough. Not sour enough. The tomyam taste to it is also so not there. BIG no-no for me.

Green Curry Chicken
He says: No no.. This does not taste like green curryy!
She says: This one has a very weird/unique taste. I don't even know if I hate it or love it. I think I'm somewhere in between. It's pretty nice. It doesn't taste like any normal green curry I've tasted.

Thab Thim Krop (Thai Dessert with Water Chestnut and Jackfruit)
He says: Love it! =D
She says: Quite nice. Quite only la. Nothing really great! I think it should be a bit sweeter! :)
